PakLab® is a computer software/application to automate a number of tasks in a modern clinical laboratory. This is developed in Microsoft Access (a relational database management system from Microsoft Corporation, USA). It is capable to automate all kinds of tasks from booking of orders, issuance of invoices, entering the results of the requested laboratory investigations in the same database, to  the creation of several comprehensive reports and analyses of investigations performed in the specified time period, what is the income from each type of laboratory test in a specified period, how many orders have been booked by a particular booking clerk and what amount he/she should deposit when he is off from duty daily - all these functions are controlled by a very versatile AdminSwitchboard in which every button does its specific task on clicking by the mouse pointer.

NOTABLE FEATURES

INVOICE PREPARATION/SAMPLING: When a patient/client accesses the laboratory for a particular test, he first contacts the booking clerk who is supposed to do these basic tasks: Preparation of the invoice for the requested the requested laboratory investigations. In preparation of the invoice he has to assign a unique LabID#, date of order (LabID# and current date will be automatically inserted by this program), patient's particulars (age, sex, address, phone #, etc. depending upon the policy of that particular laboratory), the date of collection of report of the results of the requested laboratory tests, and which laboratory investigations have been requested with their individual test prices (discount for a particular test if  it is being practiced /offered) and extended price of the requested tests individually, and then total amount of the cost of the requested tests.

In invoicing PakLab has the following key features

	When a booking clerk opens the program by entering its specific password (because he is allowed to do specific jobs only i.e., to book order and issuing of the invoices), he sees a WorkSwitchboard with several functional buttons. He click the appropriate button to open the order-booking screen.
	LabID# and current date will be inserted automatically (however date can be changed manually). Date of collection of result report may be specified one day or two day after the current date, if so then it will be written automatically.
	Booking clerk does not need to type the name of the tests. He has just to click arrow of a drop-down menu showing all the tests available in that particular laboratory will be visible in alphabetical order. He has to then click the requested tests one by one, the prices will be inserted automatically with extended prices of individual prices and then total amount of the prices all requested tests. (ALMOST ALL OPERATIONS ARE TYPING-FREE OR YOU CAN SAY BOOKING CLERK HAS TO TYPE A LITTLE TO BOOK AN ORDER EXCEPT FOR WRITING THE PATIENT'S PARTICULARS). All process is very rapid and accurate.

Entering results of various types of laboratory investigations

•  Entering results with numerical values: The most of tests requested to a clinical laboratory are reported in numerical form (especially the biochemical ones). It is our claim, that by now no laboratory management software is available which can automatically covert the values mentioned in conventional units into the SI (systéme internationale) units. The laboratory worker /technician when clicks the appropriate button on the WorkSwitchboard on the computer, result-entry screen will appear. In this he will see the requested tests which are booked by the booking clerk. The results entering person has to fill the blank space in front of the requested tests by inserting the results in conventional units. PakLab will automatically convert the conventional units to SI units with normal (reference) value of that particular test.  IT IS REALLY WONDERFUL - AUTOMATED INTERCONVERSION OF THE LABORATORY TEST VALUES WAS THE MAIN TRIGGER TO DEVELOP THIS SOFTWARE.

• Entering results with variable formats: Various laboratories have their own specific way to report hematological, histopathological, radiological, immunological, and microbiological tests. PakLab is capable to effectively handle this situation because of its flexibility. You can customize the such reports by adding appropriate templates.

All management is through a AdminSwitchboard, with many functional buttons, functioning under complex SQL queries, macros, etc, running in the background of the robust relational database management system (RDBMS) like Microsoft Access®.
